What makes csa unique?

CSA has been delivering exceptional arts education
for 40 years

Founded in 1970, the Community School of the Arts (CSA) at Wheaton College enrolls 1500 students of all ages from over 50 communities throughout the greater Chicago area. Since our inception, the school has provided a stimulating and nurturing Christian atmosphere for learning and performing. With a comprehensive program, including a wide variety of music and art programs for the whole family, we are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, and are affiliated with the National Guild for Community Arts Education, the Suzuki Association of the Americas, and the Music Teachers National Association.

CSA Faculty are of the highest caliber

Our long-standing faculty holds advanced degrees in their respective disciplines and is expertly experienced in working with students of all ages and ability levels. Frequent feedback, received from students and parents alike, reflects observations of the genuine dedication and commitment demonstrated by our teachers.

Part of our mission is to encourage students to use talents to serve others

At CSA we not only provide arts education for students, but we also strive to cultivate enjoyment and appreciation for the arts in the community through outreach and special events. We encourage our students to enrich the lives of others by sharing their talents.

CODA:

One of the primary ways in which CSA serves the local community is through the Community Outreach for Developing Artists (CODA) program. Launched in 2006, the mission of CODA is to seek out and give artistic access to young underexposed talents in our community who might not otherwise have an opportunity to develop their creative abilities.

Currently, over 500 Hispanic, African, Arabic and at-risk children receive weekly music instruction at West Chicago District 33 and World Relief DuPage.  This program is generously supported by the Tyndale House Foundation, DuPage Community Foundation, Wurlitzer Foundation, and individuals.

Community Service Day :

200 Suzuki string students perform annually at ten area retirement centers. These concerts lift the spirits of residents through music and provide an opportunity for CSA students to give back to the community.

Arts for Others

The annual CSA Arts for Others is an opportunity for CSA students to use their musical gifts to serve the less-advantaged. Funds raised are donated to help needy children in other parts of the world. Past
recipient organizations include the Real Hope for Haiti Rescue Center in Haiti; a school in Waku Kungo, Angola, Africa; and Educational Opportunities for Somaliland.

Art & Music Experience:

This free, family-friendly event offers an engaging and interactive musical concert,
instrument petting zoo, themed art project and the opportunity to talk directly with CSA teachers.
